I am creating a website for a school project in PHP. I use the Codeigniter framework and my database class is MySQLi. I created a form with a text field where users type in their username and a submit button which submits the username and password to the database class. The username and password is correctly inserted into the database.
But what I want is, when a user logs in, the users name is not the one they typed into the text field but instead it is the name of the user that is logged into the site. I don’t know how to do this, if somebody can help me that would be great.

Look at how Wordpress does it: it stores the username and users ID (if the latter is set) together in a cookie. As you want to do the same, create a cookie with this data. The Data you want to store can be retrieved with $_COOKIE.
